RAK PowerLink - Smart Power Control for IoT Devices - With Remote Output Control and Remote Reboot Over LoRaWAN®
Prefer another courier for your delivery? Contact us for special shipping arrangements.
The PowerLink RAK9105U is designed for remote power management. It lets you restart the power supply from a distance. This reduces the need to send someone on-site. For LoRaWAN Gateways, the device has a built-in LoRaWAN module. You can use LoRaWAN downlink commands or a web browser to reboot the gateway remotely. For devices like CPEs, cameras, or routers, the RAK9105U works if a LoRaWAN network is nearby. It can restart these devices without needing to send someone to the site. This is useful for off-grid installations or remote areas.
Use Cases for Remote Reboot
-
Remote Reboot My Gateway: Reboot LoRaWAN gateways or WiFi CPEs
without costly site visits. -
Router Reboot Remote: Keep your network running by resetting routers
remotely. -
CPE Reboot Remote: Manage LTE CPEs or base stations from anywhere,
even in off-grid areas. -
Restart My LoRaWAN Gateway Remotely: Use scheduled or on-demand
reboots to maintain system uptime.
Benefits
- Connect the PowerLink to your application or platforms like Datacake and Tago.io. Reboot your gateway easily using a web browser.
- When an issue occurs, reboot immediately to reduce downtime and costs.
- Save money by avoiding travel for on-site maintenance.

How to Install the Power Switch
- Prepare a Power Source:
- Use a 9V–24V DC power supply (12V is typical) as the input for the RAK9105U.
- Alternatively, use the RAK Battery Plus (RAK9155) for off-grid setups.
- Connect the Power Input:
- Plug the DC power supply or battery into the power input port of the RAK9105U.
- Connect Your Router to the Power Output:
- If your router requires 12V, connect it to one of the 12V/5A DC output ports.
- If your router requires 5V, use the 5V/3A Type-C output port.
- Control the Power:
- Use LoRaWAN commands to control and reboot the power supply to your router remotely.

Why Do I Need a Power Switch for My Networking Devices?
Networking devices like CPEs, WiFi routers, cameras, and LoRaWAN gateways can
experience downtime. This happens even in well-designed systems. Power outages or network issues are often beyond your control. This often requires traveling to the site or hiring a technician.
A power switch allows you to restart these devices remotely. It saves time and reduces costs. It also helps to minimize downtime that could disrupt your operations or impact customers. If your CPE or other devices are part of a LoRaWAN network, this power switch seamlessly integrates into the system. It minimizes downtime, reduces maintenance costs, and showcases how LoRaWAN can enable smarter device management. -
Which Power Source Should I Use for Devices Like Outdoor Cameras or
CPEs?- Check the Device’s Power Requirements:
- If your camera or CPE needs 12V, connect it to the 12V/5A DC output of the RAK9105U.
- If your device uses 5V (such as smaller devices or those with a Type-C connection), connect it to the 5V/3A Type-C output of the RAK9105U.
- Choose an External Power Source for the RAK9105U:
- Use a 9V–24V DC power supply (12V is typical) to power the RAK9105U.
- For off-grid setups, you can use the RAK Battery Plus (RAK9155) as the power input.
- Example Setup:
- Outdoor Cameras: Most cameras require 12V. Connect them to the RAK9105U’s 12V DC output.
- CPE Devices: Depending on the power requirement, use either the 12V output or the 5V Type-C output of the RAK9105U.
