Course Objective, Content/Relevance, Benefits

Through step-by-step course videos, complementary instructional materials, and easy access to our IoT programming libraries, your students will learn the basics of the integrated WisBlock system of baseboard, core microcontroller, and sensor assembly. Students will learn how to assemble, code, and deploy a set of industrial quality environmental sensors with many practical and useful applications. After completion and testing, your students will learn how to weatherproof enclose their sensors for outdoor deployments.

Adding the open network services component, your students’ environment sensors can be deployed indoors. They can also measure air quality near school or campus grounds, and monitor CO2 for climate change studies. Your students studying air quality will obtain detailed knowledge of what level of dangerous particulates are circulating near your facility both outdoor and indoor readings depending on device placement. Students will learn that the atmosphere consists of the natural gases but also dangerous human-derived pollutants, which at certain levels can cause a series of health issues.

These discrete sensor data sets can be accessed anywhere from any device type, and results shared with other students and scientists that are part of the open global sensor data network (GSDN).
